It was easy to work with Bransby Wilson for our parking needs. They fulfilled what we wanted, and we were so impressed that we want to work with them again for our upcoming music festival.

Background

Zimfest Live has grown to become one of the biggest African music festivals worldwide. They started on a small scale in 2001 just behind Wandsworth Prison in South-West London. Now, the festival has grown immensely popular over the years and has managed to conduct festivals in major cities like Cape Town, Perth, Brisbane, and Oslo.

With music festivals comes endless frustration for parking, with vehicles causing chaos by blocking busy roads. Zimfest’s St Albans site had congestion issues with vehicles causing frustration for locals on the busy road. It’s causing operational issues and trouble for both attendees, event staff and locals around the area.

Challenge

Alongside vehicles blocking the busy road, the site’s parking payments have to be manually verified leading to inefficiency and labour intensive hassle. The event runner wanted a well-managed system where festival attendees could park easily without facing delays or needing additional labour for enforcement.

The major concern was to have efficient vehicle flow to prevent road congestion outside the venue and make sure festival attendees have a good overall experience. The manual payment checks were leading to all cars backing up onto busy roads causing more crowds. So, the car park needed a quick system to allow easy entry while still enforcing payment compliance.

The challenge here was to offer a quick and hassle-free solution so that attendees could seamlessly drive in and park without delays. Along with that, the festival needed a sustainable solution that minimised relying on manpower to monitor everything related to parking. Clear communication was a major necessity to make sure attendees understood the payment system and where they could park their vehicles exactly.

Solution

Easy and Flexible Payment Option: We introduced a pay-by-phone, online, Apple/Google pay system for parking so that attendees can pay before the festival or the same day to minimise confusion. They were also allowed to pay within a few days post-event so that they had ample time and opportunity to pay for their parking.

Congestion Reduction: Our solution to reducing congestion was to offer a maximum solution for payment. The attendees had flexibility to secure parking before the festival and post festival. This gave tons of flexibility catering towards reduced time congestion.

Automated Entry Monitoring: We installed the battery-powered ANPR cameras at entry and exit points to tackle the manual payment issue. The ANPR cameras eliminated the manual payment checks requirement and helped with smooth enforcement.

Clear Signage: We added highly visible and well-informed signage all over the parking area alongside the festival ground. This contributed to guide attendees to have all information they require about payment and parking instruction.

Integrated Tariff Boards: We made sure the music festival incorporated tariff boards into digital screens across the venue so that attendees were well-informed even during the event.

Outcome

The incorporated measures helped improve vehicle flow and minimise congestion where vehicles were allowed to enter without any delays. The parking management proved to be efficient due to the proper usage of all resources. The Zimfest organisers also benefited from good financial returns with our parking approach.

The organisers were fully satisfied with our service and are using our service again for the festival’s parking for the second year!
