Located in Lincoln Road, Peterborough, the car park is behind the small supermarket on a very busy high street. The car park has 20 spaces and was already an existing pay and stay car park managed by a different parking service provider. The owner’s of the car park were not satisfied with the operation strategy of the car park, before Bransby Wilson jumped into it to make required changes.
The owners of the car park were facing major issues with the previous car park operators and were unhappy with the way how car park was running. The ongoing issues caused major inefficiencies in operation and exploitations weren’t tackled properly. Fed up with inefficiencies, the owner of the car park sought help from Bransby Wilson for better service and to implement improvements.
The owner of the car park had a system to enforce effective parking payments that allowed customers to have free parking if they spent £10 or more in their supermarket. The previous car-park operators did set up ANPR technology that required them to exclude specific vehicles from enforcement while maintaining compliance.
Further, the challenge here was ensuring the transition from the previous car-park company to us to be entirely seamless. It had to be made sure there was no service disruption and hassle for customers of the car park.
It was necessary to ensure there’s clear communication so that customers understood how the parking process worked. Also, the client wanted to include a payment system that minimised manual intervention in the car park. The major challenge was to set up a highly efficient parking experience that worked well with the owner’s customer-focused expectations with the car park.
1) iPad Based Customer Entry System: We needed a system to allow shoppers at the supermarket to register in order to use free parking when they shopped at the supermarket. So, we installed a user-friendly iPad at checkout that allowed customers to enter their vehicle registration .
2) ANPR System Included with Allow-List: We provided the client with a system that enables them to customise their own allow list for particular vehicles such as employee cars, delivery and more. It allowed the owners to exempt specific vehicles from enforcement.
3) Seamless Machine Upgrade: We installed a new payment machine at our own cost with no investment requiring from the client and made sure it matched the previous system. We ensured that the customers experienced a smooth transition without any confusion about payment terminals. We made sure owners understood how machines functioned and available payment options for customers.
4) Newly Redesigned Clear Signage: We redesigned and installed new parking signage all over the car park. The new signage displayed better and easy-to-follow instructions ensuring no confusion and better communication for customers of the car park. We made sure client’s needs were listened and increased signs all over the car park for better visibility.
5) Improved Transition and Communication: As the previous car-park company had lagged in ensuring clear communication, we wanted to ensure the owner of the car park was facilitated with clear communication. So, we provided clear messages throughout the transition phase and provided a smooth and stress-free transition for both owners and customers of the car park.
Implementing a new system, quickly improved the parking operations than before. The enforcement process also proved more effective and customers seemed more satisfied with free parking benefits. The incorporated ANPR system alongside the flexibility to customise the allow-list gave the owners of supermarkets more control over their parking system.
The new signage also proved to be more clear and no confusions were caused for customers. Further, disruption was minimised, clear communication led to a smooth transition, and car-park customers quickly got used to the new improved system. The owners of supermarkets are benefiting from increased compliance with proper enforcement systems. They are achieving higher revenue as customers are paying them properly alongside increased customer loyalty from the free-parking strategy. With our systems, the car park’s revenue increased by 20% and has been benefiting from steady income.
Thus, Bransby Wilson’s fruitful strategy for Peterborough’s car park has proved to be highly successful. The operation was drastically improved leading to positive outcomes on the new management system.
