Background

The Norwich Road car park in Norfolk is a quiet location. Only a few local businesses operate on-site. The car park is open for customer parking, but there is no proper car park management.

Challenges

The land owner wanted to introduce paid parking with a systematic management approach. As the location is not busy, their aim was to attract more visitors and earn steady revenue from paid parking.

It was essential to ensure the car park had high vehicle turn-around and to make people aware of the availability of  paid parking in the area. With the introduction of paid parking, it was necessary to ensure visitors are now aware that the car park is not free to use.

Solutions

1) Paid Parking System: We introduced a new parking system with a paid parking solution. We set up a payment system via an app-only system and set a tariff rate for the car park. With the app-only system, visitors get the flexibility to pay on arrival or exit, and can also pay up to midnight on the day of their visit. Our active customer service is also available to assist with payment, with any confusion about the new paid parking in the car park.

With ticketless, app-only systems, we ensured user experience is enhanced for customers with no headache of misplaced tickets.

2) Clear Signages: We installed clear and easy-to-understand signage in the car park. They displayed all parking information such as tariff rates, payment information, parking duration, and more. The signage played a vital role in ensuring visitors knew the car park now had a paid parking system. It was designed with industry regulations and standards and reviewed with owners before finalising it.

3) Automatic Number Plate(ANPR) System: We installed ANPR cameras in the car park to capture the entry and exit of vehicles. The system will act as enforcement on site 24/7, help to identify and reduce vehicle non-compliance, and prevent any revenue loss by monitoring parking activity. The ANPR data is also vital for a new paid parking car park. It can contribute to understanding the car park’s usage pattern and bring in new operational decisions.

4) Allow List System : The businesses operating at the location required a system to manage the allow list for their staff members and owners. So, we set up an online portal system and trained business operators and owners of the car park to use it. They get the flexibility to add/remove and customise it to their own requirement.

5) iPad Installation: We added an iPad in the car park for allow list members to enter their vehicle registration system. So, whenever they use the car park, all they have to do is enter their vehicle registration, and the system will ensure that allowed list members are in the system.

Outcome

Bransby Wilson’s paid parking solution for Norwich Road car park delivers effective results. The car park operates well, and the owners enjoy a good revenue stream.

The enforcement system prevents visitors from engaging in unauthorised parking and obliges them to follow parking regulations. With solutions incorporated with Bransby Wilson, a quiet car park has good vehicle turn-around, transforming it into a busy car park.

The system to manage and customise their own allow list prevents possible confusion among the business’s staff and owners.
