Durrell’s House is a residential area in Kensington, London with 30+ parking spaces. It’s located near a busy tourist area in Kensington and is within walking distance of numerous hotels.
Durrell’s house was in need of a system to introduce a pay and stay parking system while offering the residents permit parking.
First, they required an automated parking solution to introduce pay and stay parking for just 10 parking spaces among 30+ parking bays. They remained flexible to accommodate future expansions but wanted to start with 10 spaces.
The new pay and stay system had to integrate well with the monthly permit arrangements for residents of the area. The permits was being managed by the property’s management themselves and wanted to introduce a system to not mix it up with paid parking.
Further, the property didn’t want to rely on traditional payment machines, so an alternative and effective payment method was required without complicating the user experience. With pay and stay parking and residential parking in one car park, they needed a clear and easily-understandable solution to prevent confusion and communicate the paid parking system effectively.
Digital Payment System: Bransby Wilson introduced a pay and stay parking system to meet specific needs of Durrell’s house. We implemented an online and pay-by-phone solution through a dedicated app, which gave visitors flexibility to pay on arrival, on exit or up until midnight on the day of their visit. The app supports multiple payment methods and promotes ticketless systems ensuring convenience for users.
Signage and Communication: To make the system clear and accessible, we installed signage to display tariff information and provided our contact details for visitors who needed assistance with payments. Our friendly team of experts are available to them with confusion. The signage was designed by us to align with the property’s branding to promote consistency across the site and remained in compliance with industry standards.
Also, the entrance of the car park is not clearly visible from the roadside. So, we proposed to add a banner/entry sign to highlight the car park’s visibility. It was necessary to promote the car park for paid parking as Kensington is a tourist area in London with Durrell’s House being in walking distance.
Monthly Permit Management and Authorised Users System: For monthly permit holders, we set-up a web enabled system that allows authorised users to apply, view, update information and discontinue their permits seamlessly. Before, property management managed permit, but with introduction of paid parking, we handled permit management. With flexibility for permit holders to set it up themselves, our expert team members are also available to provide support.
In parallel, we equipped the property management team with an online portal and delivered training to ensure they could independently manage authorised users, including their staff and owners.
Monitoring Optimisation: To safeguard the integrity of the parking system and optimise performance, we added Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to monitor vehicle activity. The system integrates camera data into reporting tools, enabling the property to analyse usage patterns, prevent misuse, and make informed operational decisions that maximise parking revenue for property owners.
The introduction of the new pay-and-stay system at Durrell’s House delivered a modern and user-friendly parking solution that met both immediate and long-term needs. The convenient payment system enhanced visitor experience and prevented common frustration associated with traditional payment machines.
The signage for paid parking eliminated confusion and ensured compliance with parking regulations and maintained property’s identity across the site. The new permit management system gave residents greater platform to manage their permits online. The property management is benefitting with self-managed authorised list portal to oversee and manage users with minimal administration.
The ANPR system has provided robust safeguard against any misuse and created valuable reporting insights. The data helps property initiate data-driven decisions and improve operational efficiency and maximise revenue for property owners. For example, the data helped to understand that the car park had an opportunity to undercut without affecting income at peak hours.
Overall, Bransby Wilson’s proposed solution delivered a seamless and future-ready parking management system that balanced user convenience, operational control and revenue growth.
